Why I Built iFeely: Bridging the Gap from 1212 Miles Away

They say distance makes the heart grow fonder. But let's be honest: mostly, it just hurts.
The "Goodnight" Text Wasn't Enough
A few months ago, I moved away for my studies. Suddenly, my relationship, which used to be defined by shared meals and walks in the park, was reduced to a 6-inch screen.
We texted constantly. We FaceTimed whenever we could. But something was missing. I missed the passive presence of her. You know, that feeling of just sitting in the same room without needing to say a word?
So, I Wrote Some Code
I didn't set out to build a startup. I just wanted a way to "feel" her day without annoying her with "What are you doing?" texts every hour.
I built a rough prototype of a Home Screen widget. It did one simple thing: it showed me her step count and her current mood emoji.
Live Activities
"The final look. I wanted to feel her passive presence."
The Moment it Clicked: One afternoon, I saw her step count jump up to 8,000. I knew she was on her daily walk. Even though I was studying in a library hundreds of miles away, I smiled. I felt connected.
From a Side Project to iFeely
We started using it every single day. It became our little ritual.
- Morning: Check the widget. See she's awake (steps > 0).
- Noon: Send a ❤️ reaction to her photo reveal.
- Night: Check the distance. It’s still far, but it feels smaller.
I realized that if this helped us, it could help other couples too. Whether you are long-distance like we were, or just busy professionals who miss each other during the 9-to-5 grind.
What's Next?
iFeely is now live on the App Store. It’s packed with the features we actually use: Step Battles (because we are competitive), Live Distance, and Photo Reveals.
I hope it helps you feel a little closer to your favorite person, just like it did for me.
